Halo: Combat Evolved - The Game That Defined Console FPS
Review of: Halo: Combat Evolved
Halo: Combat Evolved revolutionized first-person shooters on consoles when it launched with the original Xbox in 2001. Bungie created a sci-fi masterpiece that proved FPS games could work exceptionally well on game controllers.
The story follows Master Chief, a super-soldier fighting against the alien Covenant on the mysterious ringworld called Halo. The campaign is perfectly paced, offering variety through vehicle sections, intense firefights, and even some horror elements in the Flood levels.
The two-weapon limit and regenerating shields were innovative design choices that added strategic depth. Do you take the powerful but slow rocket launcher, or stick with the versatile assault rifle? These decisions matter in combat.
Multiplayer is where Halo truly shines. Split-screen battles with friends and LAN parties became legendary experiences. Maps like Blood Gulch and Hang 'Em High are instant classics. The game spawned a massive competitive scene and influenced countless FPS games that followed.
✓ Pros
